Early NUFC team news ahead of Burnley clash – 3 doubts and 2 ruled out

In his press conference on Friday morning, Eddie Howe confirmed that Fabian Schar, Ryan Fraser and Chris Wood are all doubts for our visit to Burnley, while Jonjo Shelvey and Joe Willock are ruled out.

Both Shelvey and Willock picked up knocks prior to the Man City game and were ruled out for the rest of the season – Shelvey with a calf problem and Willock with a knee injury.

Upon his return to Turf Moor, Chris Wood will be hoping to get a piece of the action after the boss revealed “we don’t think it’s a serious injury” and the Kiwi has been in training.

On the other hand, Ryan Fraser – who made his return from injury against Arsenal coming off the bench – is unlikely to play due to a hamstring injury they will not want to aggravate.

Finally, with Fabian Schar’s unfortunate head injury which he sustained on Monday night, the Swiss defender has not trained this week and the club are following concussion protocols – Lascelles likely to start in his place.

With nothing left to play for, Howe will be sending his team out demanding a win as per normal, but will be aware of trying to avoid any serious injuries as we prepare for the summer.

  1. Can we expect to see Wood start against his old club?
How would he feel about putting the Clarets back in their box?
I doubt it – It’ll be Wilson up front with Wood on the bench. Howe seems pretty set playing with just the one out and out striker.

  2. I think a draw may be a more logical result. The Clarets are not going to drop into the championship. Of course, it would be great if Burnley lost the game but still remain their Premiership status i.e. Leeds also loose to Benford.
