NUFC send ‘senior’ official to watch Ligue 1 striker ahead of potential summer move – Report

As reported by inews, Newcastle have sent a “senior member of staff” to scout Nice striker Amine Gouiri as we continue our search for a new centre-forward.

The 22-year-old has enjoyed a successful couple of seasons at the French club, amassing 45 goals and assists in 83 appearances, after signing from Lyon for around £6million in 2020.

Due to his quick feet and prolific goal scoring ability, the Frenchman has been labelled as “the new Karim Benzema” and is now valued at around £30million.

Back in 2017, the then 16-year-old was also the top goal scorer in the Under-17 European Championships and the Guardian rated him as one of the best young talents in the world.

With the recent news that one of our targets, Darwin Nunez, has rejected our offer due to the lack of European football, a move for Gouiri may be a more viable and cheaper option.

Fellow Ligue 1 striker Hugo Ekitike is also still rumoured to be in talks over a move to Tyneside but we are still exploring our options as we head into a busy window.
