Newcastle defender set for potential reunion with former boss – Report

As reported by NewcastleWorld’s Liam Kennedy, Newcastle defender Ciaran Clark is being targeted by his former manager and current West Brom head coach Steve Bruce.

After six years at the club and 129 appearances, the 32-year-old is expected to leave this summer as Eddie Howe plans on reducing the current squad size to create room and generate funds for new signings.

Bruce will be hoping to make a push for promotion with the Baggies next year and the experience of the Republic of Ireland international would certainly help his efforts.

In what was one of his final games in a black and white shirt, the former Aston Villa man was sent off after nine minutes in our 1-1 draw with Norwich – ironically this forced Howe into moving Joelinton to midfield and the rest is history.

While many will be quick to criticise the former Irishman, Clark was key in our push for promotion as well as maintaining our Premier League status and deserves a positive send-off for his efforts at the club.

  1. At championship level Clark was great, at premiership level he was steady then under Bruce he became a liability probably due to fitness.
Having said that he was a good servant and good luck to him!
