Newcastle set to wave farewell to a number of players ahead of final game of 2021/22 season

Newcastle will face Burnley at Turf Moor today in what could be a lot of the squad’s final game representing the club.

For years now we have had a very familiar core – a lot of the team that helped us get promoted from the Championship in 2017 are still with us today.

Dwight Gayle, Issac Hayden, Jonjo Shelvey, Karol Darlow, Matt Ritchie, Ciaran Clark and Paul Dummett all played a crucial role in sending us back to the top-flight.

However, with a busy summer up ahead and ambitions of European football, many of these players are expected to leave to make way and generate funds for new signings next season.

What these players did for our club shouldn’t be forgotten – while they may not have been on form recently, without the likes of Clark and Ritchie and Gayle, we might not even be in this position in the first place.

No matter what happens, they all deserve a positive sendoff, and Newcastle fans everywhere should show their appreciation for the hard work and effort that they put into making this team what it is today, even in the darkest days.
