Update on Joelinton injury arrives after Brazilian is stretchered off at Burnley & spotted on crutches

During our 2-1 victory over Burnley on the final day of the season, Joelinton was stretchered off in the 11th minute after sustaining what Newcastle have now revealed as a “deep laceration” to his ankle.

The £40million man was also pictured on crutches after the game, wearing a protective boot on his right foot, similar to that of Kieran Trippier back in February.

It is suspected that the injury should only take a ‘few weeks of rest’ to recover from and the Brazilian should be fine to return to training for pre-season.

Lee Ryder has also confirmed, via the club, that the striker turned midfielder has NOT suffered a break, playing down fears that he will be set for a lengthy layoff.

This comes just over a week after the 25-year-old was voted our player of the season as he had been revolutionised by Eddie Howe – along with every other player at the club.

It is ultimately a disappointing end to what has been an excellent season for the now dominating midfielder, but hopefully he will still be able to enjoy the celebrations with the rest of the squad.

After two miserable years under Steve Bruce and most people writing him off, Joelinton is now the “heartbeat” of this team, as described by Jamie Carragher, and will be crucial for us next season too.
