Aston Villa beat Newcastle to bargain deal for long-term Toon target – Fabrizio Romano

Journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed on Twitter that long-term Newcastle target Boubacar Kamara has agreed to sign with Aston Villa after his contract with Marseille expires in June.

The 22-year-old is set to sign a five-year contract with the Birmingham side and it is believed that manager Steven Gerrard was key to securing the deal.

Newcastle had been in discussions with the Frenchman in March after signalling their interest in his talents last year, but he has decided against the move to Tyneside.

Described as one of the best young defensive midfielders in Europe, missing out on Kamara could be a huge blow for Newcastle, although we should be comfortable enough in finding a new option given our newfound wealth.

For once, the midfield may not be the utmost priority – a new goalkeeper, striker and centre half are all higher up on the list due to the quality we have had this season in the middle of the park, particularly the Brazilian duo of Bruno and Joelinton.

  1. he never was going to Newcastle.
They looked at him at the same time as they were looking at Bruno Guimarães, and we all know the result of that one.
Man Utd were very interested in him, don’t know why he didn’t go there…
