Newly promoted Fulham set to beat Newcastle to Serie A star – Report

Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has reported that recently promoted Fulham look set to complete the signing of Lazio goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha despite interest from Newcastle.

This comes just a few weeks after the Mirror had claimed the 28-year-old was prepared to make the move to Tyneside in the summer.

Corriere dello Sport had even reported on the Albanian joining the Magpies just days ago, suggesting something special has been offered to make him have such a quick change of heart.

After two consecutive promotions which have both led to relegation, Fulham will be desperate to remain in the Premier League next season and the experienced goalkeeper should certainly help their efforts.

The two-time Coppa Italia winner has been crucial for the Serie A club, making 208 total appearances, but manager Maurizio Sarri will allow the 6ft 4 man to leave in anticipation of a big summer shake-up.

Newcastle will be disappointed with Strakosha’s decision to go to West London, but will move on to other targets such as Dean Henderson who we have been heavily linked with in recent weeks.
