Newcastle struggling to get deals done for 3 exciting top targets – The Telegraph

According to The Telegraph, Newcastle are struggling to attract a few of their top summer targets, as Darwin Nunez, Kalvin Phillips and Christopher Nkunku are proving ‘beyond our reach.’

So far, the beginning of the summer window has been something of a reality check for Newcastle with the likes of Benfica’s Nunez reportedly turning down a move to Tyneside due to a lack of European football.

A move for Leeds’ Kalvin Phillips also looks unlikely to happen now especially with the Yorkshire-based club avoiding relegation meaning the 26-year-old’s £30million relegation release clause will not be triggered.

Like Nunez, Nkunku seems to be in line for a ‘bigger’ move, with him likely to demand Champions League football after his 35 goals and 20 assists saw him named Bundesliga Player of the Season for 2021/22.

Manager Eddie Howe will hope that the club can attract some quality players as soon as possible in preparation for our upcoming pre-season where he can ease new signings in.

Similarly to our January spending, the club may have to make shrewd deals in the coming months with a reported budget of around £60-80million at Howe’s dispense for what fans hope to be used for a number of improvements.

  1. “So far, the beginning of the summer window has been something of a reality check ”

The only reality check so far would be you realising that the transfer window is not actually open yet.

  2. From what I’ve read elsewhere ..neither one of these are “serious ” targets as they are well above budget ..but speculate away ..

  3. I don’t think we will be going after Jack Grealish that’s for sure.
Overpaid, overrated, ego larger than his abilities, dresses like a girl and has no brain whatsoever, he seems like another Paul Merson in the making to me, it won’t be long before he is on the bottle if he isn’t already with career down the pan.
