Amanda Staveley reopens talks over £5m deal as NUFC eye major off-field appointment – Report

The Mail’s Craig Hope has revealed that Newcastle are set to reopen negotiations for Brighton’s technical director Dan Ashworth in hope he will arrive in time for the summer.

Just last month it was disclosed that we would have to pay £5million for the 51-year-old after he was placed on gardening leave by the Seagulls in February.

If the two clubs cannot come to an agreement over the former FA director of elite development, we would be forced to wait until November when his notice period expires.

However, there is positivity coming from both camps that a deal can be made fairly soon after discussions had resumed in recent weeks, suggesting a compromise may be found on Brighton’s £5million demands.

Ashworth is viewed as a key figure for the development of our long-term project and his arrival on Tyneside would be extremely beneficial for our summer window.

The move would see him team up with manager Eddie Howe – a duo which the owners hope can be the first big transition into redeveloping the club’s infrastructure to become one of Europe’s elite.
