Eddie Howe eyeing surprise reunion with player he signed for Bournemouth back in 2015?

According to the Daily Star, Newcastle are weighing up a surprise move for Tyrone Mings – who could leave Aston Villa this summer following Diego Carlos’ arrival.

The 29-year-old could be set to drop down the pecking order under Steven Gerrard following the signing of Carlos – a January target of ours – and is someone who Howe will know well from their time together at Bournemouth.

That’s because the 44-year-old brought Mings to the South Coast back in 2015, bringing him in from Ipswich in a deal worth £12m. Seven years later, The Star now claim that Howe is keen to be reunited with the defender.

The same report also claims that Villa are eyeing up a move for Burnley’s James Tarkowski – who is set to become a free agent – which could open the door for Mings’ departure even further.

Gareth Southgate has also dropped the 6ft 5 man from his most recent England squad for the upcoming Nations League games in June, so the centre-back will be desperate for first-team football as a way back into the Three Lions squad.

We are certainly in need of defensive replacements with Ciaran Clark and Federico Fernandez expected to leave, but the likes of Mings may not even be an improvement on our already established pairing of Fabian Schar and Dan Burn.

This could be the Star putting two and two together and making five, but Mings is someone Howe will know well, he’s facing an uncertain future at Villa and will know several of the former Bournemouth lads currently on Tyneside, making this a move that may appeal to him IF we really are interested.
