Eddie Howe “would love” to sign England international as Newcastle eye “British core” – Report

Speaking to GiveMeSport, journalist Dean Jones has stated that he is confident Newcastle will target Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin in a bid to create a “British core” at the club.

Supposedly, Howe “would love” to sign the Sheffield-born goal scorer who was valued at around £60million back in January, but is unlikely to cost such a high fee now.

It has also previously been reported that the striker’s agent was recently at St James’ Park amid rumours that the club were very interested in his talents.

While the deal looked a lot more likely to occur if Everton had been relegated, Newcastle remain unwavering in their hopes to bring the England international to Tyneside.

The forward only has five league goals in what has been a difficult season for everyone at Everton – compared to last year’s tally of 16 which earned him a spot in Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2020 squad.

Following a toe injury which kept him out for almost four months, the 25-year-old appears to be back to scoring ways after he bagged two in his last three games.

  3. Honestly fans like jonboy don’t deserve the takeover and a potentially successful team with stupid comments like that wood done a hell of an unselfish job for the team while feeding off scraps at best plus that penalty against wolves was one of the most important of the season so like the vast majority of the players and the coaching team they all need our eternal thanks for getting us out of the mire we were in and if they feel having a British core is the best way to go support it and let them get on with it instead of moaning and whining and coming out with negative comments because it’s simple if any fans don’t like what there doing going support Sunderland

  4. Chris Wood took weight off others who did score the goals. With another striker, he will be a squad player behind whoever we buy and Wilson. We need a decent CB to partner Schar and or Burn; a good left back if Targett isn’t joining with Dummett as back up; and an impriovement on Shelvey or Almiron.
