French trio back on NUFC’s radar and new claims emerge on ambitious Moussa Diaby move

Last summer, Newcastle were heavily linked with a loan move for Arsenal’s William Saliba, only for the highly-rated centre-back to end up spending the season at Marseille.

Fast forward 12 months, L’Equipe are now reporting that we are one of several clubs who have enquired about the 21-year-old’s availability ahead of his return to North London.

The towering defender won Ligue 1 Young Player of the season, but it’s not yet clear if he’ll feature in Mikel Arteta’s long term plans.

L’Equipe also report that we are continuing to pursue an ambitious move for Christopher Nkunku – a player that was linked with a move to Tyneside during his PSG days – however it’s said the Leipzig star is ‘not convinced’ by the project at St James’ Park.

It’s looking slightly more promising on Bayern Leverkusen’s Moussa Diaby. The same piece states that he’s been identified as a ‘priority target’ by Newcastle, saying our ‘first offer’ for the 22-year-old winger is expected imminently.

Last but not least, we’ve been credited with an interest in yet another familiar Frenchman today in Nabil Fekir.

The 28-year-old was tipped to arrive two years ago when the Saudi-backed takeover looked set to go through in 2020 and Spanish outlet AS claim we are still keen – although they claim an initial bid of €35m would be ‘well below’ Real Betis’ requirements.
