It looks like Hugo Ekitike really will be arriving at St James’ Park this summer.
According to some ‘breaking news’ emerging from RMC Sport last night, the Reims forward has now ‘agreed in principle’ to join Newcastle United and is expected to complete the move ‘imminently.’
The French outlet states that the two clubs have already come to an initial agreement over the transfer fee, so claims that the player is now eager to arrive on Tyneside suggests we have taken a huge step closer to getting this deal done over the weekend.
Interestingly, RMC claim that the fee will be €36m (£31m) plus €10m (£8.5m) in potential add-ons, although this is considerably more than some have reported, with Mark Douglas (i news) and Luke Edwards (The Telegraph) insisting that we will pay an initial up front fee of £15m.
Either way, it looks like the 19-year-old striker has opted for Newcastle, despite interest from the likes of Borussia Dortmund and PSG, meaning he could sign soon after he returns from international duty at the Toulon tournament with France’s U20s.
He plays his last game for France U-21s on the 9th so next weekend should be the medical and announcement.
