Newcastle contact Porto over potential summer deal – Player has €60m release clause – Report

According to reports in Portugal, Newcastle are keeping a close eye on Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa.

Not only do Portuguese paper Jornal de Notícias claim we’ve been watching the player closely – stating we have the 22-year-old ‘very well referenced’ – local newspaper Record say we’ve made contact with Porto over a potential deal.

Costa has already had a successful start to his young career, winning the Primeira Liga title for 2021/22 as well as earning four caps for the Portuguese national team, making his debut back in October last year.

As we look to target a ball-playing goalkeeper to suit the modern era, Costa could fit the bill and may well be on our radar alongside the heavily linked Dean Henderson.

Due to already having experienced goalkeeper and Copa America winner in Argentine stopper Agustín Marchesin, Porto may be willing to sell for the right price.

However, with a release clause of €60million and an ever-growing profile as a young goalkeeper with big potential, he wouldn’t come cheap.
