Sky Sports: Newcastle considering moves for Senegal international and Bundesliga star

Sky Sports have confirmed Newcastle’s interest in Bayer Leverkusen winger Moussa Diaby, with Watford’s Ismaila Sarr another player under consideration as we bid to strengthen the right side of our attack.

L’Equipe reported that we were preparing a £55m bid for Diaby in their latest edition last night, while Jacque Talbot released a piece for Football Transfers last month on Sarr – stating that we’d met with the player’s agent to discuss a potential move.

Now, Sky Sports’ Dharmesh Sheth has backed up links to both, stating that we are ‘looking at’ both, knowing Watford would consider “sensible offers” for Sarr now he’s entered the final two years of his deal at Vicarage Road.

The Hornets look set to cash in on the 24-year-old following relegation to the Championship, however Bayer Leverkusen may be more stubborn sellers when it comes to Diaby, who has helped them qualify for the Champions League with 17 goals and 14 assists in all competitions last season.

Diaby is younger and arguably has the higher ceiling of the two, but either would offer an exciting new dimension to our right hand side, having pace to burn and bags of potential.

  1. Has Sarr made a statement about his support for Homophobic tweets by his international colleague. Until he does he is not welcome here.

  2. If we are supposed to be only spending £60 million in the transfer window, it doesn’t make sense to blow it all on one player. The validity of these claims are always in question. The truth to the matter is no one actually knows who Newcastle is in contact with. So it is best to just sit back and wait to see who we actually sign and come thru the door.

  3. Sarr’s talent is not questioned but his temperament certainly is. Not sure he’d fit in with our new ethos now.
