Agent holds meeting with Newcastle officials on Monday over move for top free agent – Report

According to new reports, Newcastle United met with Christian Eriksen’s representatives on Monday to discuss a potential move to St James’ Park for the Danish international.

The ‘exclusive’ from Jacque Talbot at Football Transfers reveals that this isn’t the first time we’ve held talks with the 30-year-old, who looks set to be available on a free transfer after signing a six-month contract with Brentford in January.

Manchester United are also in the running, with the Bees also desperate to extend his stay in West London, however we’re told that Spurs will NOT be bringing their former playmaker back to the club this summer.

The playmaker would be a superb signing if we could pull it off, offering vast experience, added leadership and immense quality on the field.

It would go against Howe’s bid to bring down the average age of the squad, however it would be a smart piece of business – especially when we’re trying to work within FFP restrictions – and would add composure to an attack that has plenty pace but, sometimes, a lack of cutting edge.
