According to new reports, Newcastle United are targeting Switzerland stopper Yann Sommer after cooling their interest in Dean Henderson.
This comes from TalkSPORT journalist Alex Crook, who claims that Eddie Howe is keen to bring in a ball-playing goalkeeper to compete with Martin Dubravka.
The 33-year-old has entered the final 12 months of his current deal at Borussia Mönchengladbach and is ‘reluctant’ to sign an extension, meaning he could leave on a cut-price fee this summer.
TalkSPORT state that talks had taken place between Newcastle and the agent of Man Utd’s Dean Henderson, however it’s said we’re ‘unlikely’ to follow up on our initial interest and could pursue a cheaper move for Sommer instead.
Sommer will know Fabian Schar very well from their time together in the Swiss national side, with him making 73 appearances for his country and also playing alongside the defender during his time at Basel.
The experienced international is the vice captain at Borussia Mönchengladbach, making 324 appearances for the Bundesliga side since his arrival in 2014.
