Newcastle set to announce loan with option to buy as second summer exit edges closer – Report

It looks like Freddie Woodman will become the second senior player to leave Newcastle United this summer.

According to the Northern Echo, the 25-year-old is ‘on the verge’ of completing a loan move to Championship side Preston North End.

The report states that the move to Deepdale will also include an option to buy the goalkeeper on a permanent deal this time next year – offering the clearest sign yet that he is not in Eddie Howe’s long term plans on Tyneside.

Woodman spent the second half of the 2021/22 season on loan at Bournemouth, yet didn’t make a single league appearance for the newly promoted Cherries due to Mark Travers’ impressive form between the sticks.

Should the move go through, the former Swansea loanee will become the second player to leave the club this summer, with Isaac Hayden joining Norwich City on a similar deal earlier this week.
