Dan Ashworth attempting to sell 7 players; and 3 could follow if right offers arrive – The Athletic

In a recent piece, The Athletic’s Chris Waugh revealed that Eddie Howe is keen to bring in up to SIX new signings this summer.

However, to make that a reality, our new sporting director Dan Ashworth knows he must help move on a host of fringe players, with it logistically impossible for a flurry of fresh additions to arrive should we fail to trim the squad.

Finances may allow it, but Howe has to pick a 25-man squad in a few month’s time and won’t want to see a host of players hanging around like a bad smell. Not only that, it’s also costly to have well paid deadwood sat on the sidelines Henri Saivet style.

It’s bad business, potentially damaging for team morale and could limit our ability to make the signings Howe wants, so it really is vital that we move certain members of the squad on this summer.

As a result, The Athletic state that Dan Ashworth could look to move on almost a THIRD of our 31 senior players.

After reading the piece in full, it seems there’s a cluster of players we are actively looking to sell, others who could move on if the right offer arrives and a couple who could be loaned out – although some from the former category could be forced to settle for loans if permanent exits can’t be agreed.

Players up for sale:

  • Freddie Woodman
  • Karl Darlow
  • Ciaran Clark
  • Federico Fernandez
  • Matt Ritchie
  • Jeff Hendrick
  • Dwight Gayle

Players who could be sold to raise cash:

  • Jamaal Lascelles
  • Javier Manquillo
  • Miguel Almiron

Players who could be loaned out:

  • Kell Watts
  • Matty Longstaff

  1. Obi 2 kanobi:
Would add Jacob Murphy and Shelvie to that list

The Athletic’s piece said Murphy is expected to stay and be a squad player, with Shelvey’s future set to be assessed in a year’s time.
