New Hugo Ekitike claims arrive from Fabrizio Romano – Double boost for Newcastle United?

Fabrizio Romano has issued a much needed update on our attempts to bring Hugo Ekitike to St James’ Park, revealing that “new, positive contact” has been made between the player’s agent and Newcastle.

The renowned journalist claims that the move is “back on track”, confirming that an agreement is in place with Reims in what promises to be an “important” week for the deal.

Romano revealed last Thursday that Ekitike’s agent was due on Tyneside a week ago today for talks, only for that meeting to be delayed. The 19-year-old was also forced off with a hamstring problem in France U20’s clash with Mexico in the Toulon tournament a few days ago, throwing another potential spanner in the works.

However, it seems we are back in talks with his agent – suggesting there’s no issue on that front – and have learned that this hamstring injury isn’t as bad as first feared, highlighted by the fact he made the bench for France U20’s as they went on to win the Toulon Tournament last night.

Here’s what Romano’s had to say just moments ago, offering a positive update on Ekitike’s proposed move to Newcastle:
