Agent claims NUFC have held talks to sign World Cup star & opens door to Premier League move

According to Aleksandr Golovin’s agent, Newcastle United held talks to sign the Monaco midfielder back in January.

Alexander Klyuev – the player’s representative – states that ‘negotiations’ took place earlier this year between the two clubs, although he’s refused to reveal any further details.

After shining at the last World Cup with Russia in 2018, the 26-year-old went on to complete a big-money move to Monaco back in 2018, leaving CSKA Moscow for £27m.

Since then, the versatile attacking midfielder has gone on to bag 17 goals and 25 assists over the past four seasons in France – and, according to his agent, he’s open to a move to the Premier League this summer.

Speaking to MetaRatings, here’s what Klyuev had to say when asked about a report claiming we had a £34m bid turned down for the Russian just a few months ago:

“(The rumours are) definitely not fake. Negotiations between Monaco and Newcastle on Sasha Golovin (happened in January),”

“Of course, I can’t reveal the details.”

Klyuev also said this when asked where his client could end up next, naming England as a potential destination and somewhere he’s already “had offers” from:

“We don’t even consider (a return to the Russian Premier League).

More England or Spain.

“Moreover, we had offers from clubs from there.”
