“Newcastle are trying to hijack the deal” – Toon launch late bid for £20m man ahead of medical?

According to reports in East London, Newcastle have attempted to hijack ANOTHER deal involving a player who looked to be heading West Ham’s way.

Claret and Hugh and @ExWHUemployee – two sites dedicated to the Hammers – are both claiming that Newcastle have made a late move for Nayef Aguerd; the Rennes centre-back who had been closing in on a move to the London Stadium.

According to Claret and Hugh’s source, “Newcastle are trying to hijack the deal” for the defender – interesting claims when our move for Sven Botman continues to drag on, especially when Aguerd is also a left-footed ball player who appears to be available for slightly less.

Sky Sports reckon West Ham have agreed a £20m deal for the 26-year-old Moroccan, while other outlets mention a £25m fee. Either way, it’s less than the £35m Lille are said to be demanding for Botman, so time will tell if we’ve made a late move.

This comes just 24 hours after links with Alphonse Areola, with RMC Sport reporting that we are trying to beat West Ham to a deal for the PSG stopper.

Here’s a snippet from Claret and Hugh’s site, which suggests we’ve made a late move for Aguerd:

No sooner had we posted the news per the London Evening Standard that he was believed to be in London for a medical that we were contacted by a Hammers insider saying there could be a problem.

And it seems that once again Newcastle United could be the thorn in our side as they take a late interest in the player.

CandH’s key Hammers source, having explained that we were likely to see the central defender sign before the end of the week, revealed when we asked the length of deal he was set to sign: “Who knows, Newcastle are trying to hijack the deal.
