It looks like Newcastle United really are showing interest in a summer move for Braga wonderkid Roger Fernandes.
Speaking exclusively to NUFC Blog, Jacque Talbot – a correspondent at Football Transfers – has told us that the club have held “preliminary talks” over a potential move for the Portuguese winger.
The 16-year-old has enjoyed an outstanding start to life in senior football, not only scoring three times in 10 appearances, but featuring in Braga’s Europa League campaign last season.
At the age of 15, he also became the youngest player to feature in Liga Portugal after he came on in a 2-1 defeat to Sporting Lisbon back in July 2021.
12 months later, Newcastle are showing interest in a deal to bring the highly-rated winger to Tyneside, with Jacque Talbot revealing that preliminary talks have been held:
“Newcastle are interested in Roger Fernandes and I believe there has been some preliminary talks over a potential move.
“He’s a 16-year-old Portuguese winger at SC Braga.
“He’s very highly rated and, at the moment, it appears Newcastle are the only ones in for a shout for him.
“Obviously there’s other priorities at the moment, but it again fits the blueprint of bringing in youth and moulding them.
“One to keep an eye on, but all preliminary at this point.”
