Newcastle agree £350,000 fee & three-year deal for another highly-rated defender – The Athletic

It looks like another highly-rated youngster is on his way to Newcastle United, with The Athletic confirming we are all set to sign Kilmarnock centre-back Charlie McArthur.

They report that we have agreed a £350,000 fee with the SPL side and struck an agreement on personal terms with the player himself.

The 17-year-old is expected to sign a three-year deal on Tyneside – the maximum contract possible for players under the age of 18 – and should slot straight into the club’s U23 set up ahead of the 2022/23 season.

McArthur looks set to become the second young defender to arrive this summer, with the club completing a deal for Galway United talent Alex Murphy last month.

Not only does the Scot captain his country at U17 level, he made his Kilmarnock debut at the age of 16 and recently helped them earn promotion back to the SPL.

This may not be the senior signing or Sven Botman breakthrough we’re all crying out for, but a move for McArthur could be another smart piece of business and one to watch for the future.
