Newcastle could launch bid to sign England international midfielder – The Guardian

According to The Guardian, Newcastle are considering a summer bid for Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse.

The England international has often been mentioned as the sort of midfielder fans would like to see arrive due to his devastating quality from set pieces and eye for a pass.

He wouldn’t come cheap, but Will Unwin’s latest transfer piece for The Guardian claims we ‘could lodge a bid’ for the 27-year-old in a bid to beat West Ham to a deal.

The Mirror’s Darren Lewis has also credited us with an interest in the free-kick specialist, stating that he has ‘admirers’ on Tyneside following yet another impressive season with the Saints.

Ward-Prowse bagged 11 goals and eight assists from midfield over the 2021/22 season, scoring as many direct free kicks (4) as Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs combined.

It was reported by The Telegraph yesterday that Eddie Howe has prioritised moves for a striker, a winger and a centre-back above all else, so it remains to be seen if we’ll have the funds – or appetite – to spend big on a midfielder who won’t come cheap.

Set piece deliveries are much improved with Trippier, prefer a midfielder with more guile

Good point. He’s shown how good he is at free kicks too, scoring crucial ones against Everton and Aston Villa.

I’d love to see us go for a midfield destroyer like Sangare (PSV).

  2. I also want Sangare, but being greedy want Paqueta / Eriksen as well.

re RW would be happy with Marcus Edwards from Sporting

    Upfront Scamarra
