£17.5m release clause emerges as Eddie Howe asks club to enquire about relegated trio – Report

It looks like Nick Pope isn’t the only Burnley player Newcastle United are taking a look at this summer.

According to 90min reporter Graeme Bailey, Eddie Howe has asked the club the enquire about Maxwel Cornet and Dwight McNeil.

The report states that Cornet has a release clause set at £17.5m, while McNeil is said to be a player Howe had identified as a potential summer target prior to Burnley’s relegation.

Both are expected to leave Turf Moor after their final day defeat to Newcastle saw them slip down into the second tier, while Nick Pope – another Toon ‘target’ – is believed to be available for around £12m.

Cornet, 25, bagged an impressive nine goals and two assists in 19 starts for the Clarets last season. He’s an Ivory Coast international capable of playing down either flank or up top and is said to be attracting interest from a host of Premier League sides.

As for McNeil, the 22-year-old was linked with a £30m move to St James’ Park during Rafa Benitez’s time in charge, however the highly-rated winger endured a difficult season last term, ending the campaign with just one assist to his name.
