Steve Nickson spotted scouting £35m striker as another summer option emerges – Report

According to The Chronicle, Newcastle United have been showing interest in Sassuolo striker Gianluca Scamacca.

Lee Ryder has revealed that Steve Nickson – the club’s head of recruitment – has been on a host of scouting missions to watch the 23-year-old Italian international ahead of a possible summer move.

That said, he won’t come cheap, as The Chronicle reveal that we’ve been quoted a fee in excess of £35m after Arsenal recently had a bid just shy of that amount rejected.

PSG have also been heavily linked with the 6ft 5′ forward following his impressive season in Serie A, seeing him bag 16 goals in 36 appearances for Sassuolo to help them finish 11th.

Interestingly, The Mail’s Craig Hope has also confirmed our interest in the former PSV youngster, suggesting he is someone who may be pursued if we fail to wrap up the signing of Reims talent Hugo Ekitike.
