Newcastle set to sanction another summer exit once replacement is signed – The Athletic

Middlesbrough have identified Karl Darlow as one of their top targets this summer, according to The Athletic.

The report states that they want the 31-year-old to become their new number one ahead of the new season, with Leicester City’s Daniel Iversen also on their radar.

The Athletic also reveal that Newcastle are looking to sign a new goalkeeper this summer and will sanction a summer move for Darlow once a replacement is recruited.

This appears to have given Boro encouragement in their pursuit of the former Nottingham Forest man, who hasn’t made a single appearance under Eddie Howe since struggling in that 3-3 draw with Brentford back in November last year.

Not only does this confirm Middlesbrough’s interest, it offers an insight into our summer transfer plans, suggesting we are looking to bring in fresh competition for current number one Martin Dubravka.

Darlow may not be the only goalkeeper on the way out, with Freddie Woodman expected to join Preston on loan with a view to a permanent deal this week.
