Newcastle have been linked with an ambitious move for Sevilla centre-back Jules Koundé on several occasions since the takeover went through last October.
Spanish paper Mundo Deportivo recently claimed that we had a ‘£59m bid’ rejected by the La Liga side in January, and the same outlet have followed that up with a fresh update on the Frenchman’s future.
In their latest piece, they claim that we have reignited our interest in the 23-year-old, leaving him “tempted” to make a summer move to St James’ Park.
The report states that Julen Lopetegui’s side will not stand in the player’s way this summer – even if his release clause isn’t met – but insist it would take big money to strike a deal.
Mundo Deportivo claim the player is valued at £50m, being a France international and one of the most highly-rated defender in La Liga, having shone in recent seasons alongside former Toon target Diego Carlos; who sealed a surprise move to Aston Villa last month.
I’d be shocked if we pulled this one off and would take these claims with a pinch of salt given he’s been heavily linked with Chelsea and Barcelona, but this would be some statement of intent and a real marquee signing for Eddie Howe’s Mags.
