Sky Sports: Newcastle eyeing move for relegated forward if £50m man proves too expensive

According to Sky Sports, Newcastle could turn their attention to Watford’s Ismaila Sarr if Bayer Leverkusen star Moussa Diaby proves too expensive this summer.

Sky Germany revealed over the weekend that the Bundesliga side look set to demand at least £50m for the winger, meaning we’d have to smash our transfer record to bring the Frenchman to Tyneside.

Both players are still young – Sarr is 24 and Diaby 22 – but with the Senegalese international having just been relegated with the Hornets, he’s likely to be available for significantly less.

Sky Sports claim that the arrival of a right winger is a ‘priority’ for Eddie Howe this summer, which could make plenty of sense to add to our attacking threat and open up space for Allan Saint-Maximin to do damage down the left.

It’s unlikely that Newcastle fans would turn their nose up at either addition, but it seems Diaby’s arrival would be the more popular of the two after he bagged an impressive 17 goals and 14 assists in all competitions last season and recently broke into the French national side.

Here’s what Sky’s Dharmesh Sheth said about both this week, believing Sarr will be one to watch if a deal for Diaby doesn’t work out:
