Nick Pope has moved one step closer to signing for Newcastle United this morning.
As revealed by Sky Sports’ Keith Downie, the goalkeeper has now been spotted arriving at St James’ Park after completing his medical.
He also claims that we’ll pay a fee ‘in the region of £10m’ for the 30-year-old stopper, with this coming after The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards said we’d struck a deal between ‘£8-10m’ with Burnley just a few days ago.
Here’s a clip of the big man at the stadium earlier today:
Considering the England international was recently valued at around £30m by the Clarets, this feels like a brilliant piece of business for a Premier League proven goalkeeper who was named in the PFA Team of the Year just two years ago.
Pope will become our second signing of the summer, following Matt Target – who completed a £12m permanent move from Aston Villa earlier this month.
With Freddie Woodman joining Preston and Karl Darlow likely to follow him out of the exit door ahead of Pope’s arrival, it’s great to see us upgrade the goalkeeping department without breaking the bank.
Is Pope better than Dubravka?
I can’t see why Pope would sign for us unless he was guaranteed game time. He wants to get to the world cup and he’s going to need to play to do that.

Nick Pope is definitely an upgrade on Dubs, for anyone in doubt, have a look at their comparative stats.
