Newcastle United are showing interest in OGC Nice midfielder Khéphren Thuram.
Speaking to Jacque Talbot at FootballTransfers, we’ve been informed that talks have taken place on ‘several’ occasions this summer over a potential deal for the 21-year-old.
An early sticking point during those discussions is believed to be the transfer fee, with Nice currently demanding just shy of €40m (£34m) for the Frenchman.
At that valuation, Newcastle could choose to look elsewhere, however there’s an expectation that this asking price will come down soon, suggesting this may be one to watch.
Thuram is a 6ft 3′ central midfielder coming off the back of his best season yet, where he missed just two league games all campaign under Christophe Galtier and established himself in the France U21 set up.
This has seen him attract reported interest from the likes of Juventus and PSG, with the latter likely to be a strong contender if Galtier does take charge of the Ligue 1 giants.
But, with Newcastle keen to add some exciting young talent to their engine room this summer, our interest in the former Monaco talent makes plenty of sense – providing the price is right.
