Sky Italy: Newcastle launch €40m bid plus €5m in bonuses – Club urging the player to accept

According to Sky Italy’s Gianluca Di Marzio, Newcastle United have upped their offer for Lille’s Sven Botman.

He reports that we’ve upped our bid to €40m (£34m) plus €5m (£4m) in potential add-ons and states that Lille are pushing the player to complete a move to Newcastle – suggesting our latest bid is one they’d be willing to accept.

The Telegraph insist that the 6ft 5′ Dutchman is ‘open’ to joining Newcastle United this summer, so it remains to be seen if he’ll continue to hold out for AC Milan or finally make his way to Tyneside.

As for Lille, it would be a breakthrough of sorts if we have finally put together an offer they are willing to proceed with, as Luke Edwards (The Telegraph) revealed last week that they were moving the goalposts in negotiations.

With deals for Botman and Ekitike dragging on for several months now, it feels like the club have reached a crossroads in both pursuits.

Agents and selling clubs may be causing problems by applying the “Newcastle tax”, but we can’t wait around forever. Let’s hope we get good news soon!
