Sven Botman releases statement – Waves goodbye to Lille after arriving at St James’ Park

Ahead of his £35million move to Newcastle, defender Sven Botman has issued a farewell message to Lille and their fans as he arrives at St James’ Park following a successful medical.

The Dutchman expressed his gratitude to everyone involved at the French club which helped him to grow immensely as a player and give him his first taste of silverware by winning Ligue 1 in 2021.

Here’s the official statement he sent to Lille via his Instagram page:

”Really grateful that I’ve worn the LOSC badge for two years, it has been an incredible journey with two big trophies and memories I will never forget.

“Merci LOSC pour tous!”

After two seasons in the French league, it seems the 6ft 5 man is ready to make the leap to the Premier League and show us exactly why we’ve been battling for his signature for over six months.

It is expected that the youth international will sign his contract lasting until 2027 and for a fee of around £35million after a draining transfer battle between the Magpies and AC Milan.

In the last few hours, the centre-back has been pictured at both the training ground and St James’ Park, with the announcement of his arrival now deemed imminent.
