French media announce fresh twist in Hugo Ekitike saga as things go from bad to worse

Hugo Ekitike really needs to find himself a new agent, never mind a new club.

After we agreed a fee with Reims and personal terms with the player, agent fees were believed to be the reason the striker’s proposed move to St James’ Park was delayed.

Rather conveniently, a couple of reports then emerged linking PSG, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid with the 20-year-old talent. It felt like a clear ploy to drum up ‘interest’ and force us to give in to his representatives.

Delays continued and it then emerged that the club were ready to walk away from a deal, with The Mail’s Craig Hope describing the agent demands as “ridiculous.”

Now, French outlet Le Parisien report that PSG have no interest in the Frenchman, saying he isn’t even on their list of potential targets despite the recent links.

The report even suggests that PSG’s name was merely being used to drive up the young striker’s asking price – a move that’s totally backfired if true!

Borussia Dortmund have now signed Sebastien Haller instead, we appear to be pursuing other options, Real Madrid have denied their interest (according to reports in Spain) and now we have this from France.

I wouldn’t be surprised his agent – Karl Buchmann – came crawling back to Newcastle if he really has shot himself in the foot.

People would soon forget all of this nonsense if his client scored goals on Tyneside and really did look like the ‘new Mbappe’, but the thought of him signing feels slightly awkward after everything that’s gone on.

  1. This is really frustrating. If he wants to come then have it out with his rep. If no progress then move on as the return for pre-season is days away. There are other options that I’m sure Eddie and the team are working on with this lads I injuries last season maybe elsewhere is a better prospect.

  2. John:
What are the demands his agent is asking for ? Anyone know?

There was a rumour that he wanted a ten million bonus if he scored over ten goals in his first season. Sounds ridiculous, some maybe it’s bollocks. And I would assume his agent either wanted a large part of that and or a few million quid for himself.

  3. We should only consider taking to this kid again if he gets rid of his agent. His parents and family need to step in and tell this agent to do one.
