Newcastle line up Sven Botman’s Dutch teammate as alternative to Hugo Ekitike – Report

According to new reports, Newcastle have entered the race to sign Dutch striker Joshua Zirkzee.

This comes from leading Belgian outlet Het Laatste Nieuws, who report that Newcastle and Ajax are both ‘showing interest’ in the Bayern Munich talent.

Zirkzee is a 21-year-old forward who enjoyed an outstanding loan spell at Anderlecht last season, bagging 18 goals and 13 assists in all competitions for the Belgians.

However, German reports suggest he’s unlikely to have a future with Bayern ahead of his return to the Bundesliga giants, meaning a permanent move could be on the cards this summer.

Like Hugo Ekitike, he stands 6ft 3′ tall and is believed to be mobile for a striker of his height. Not only that, he’ll know new recruit Sven Botman very well as a fellow Dutch U21 international; where he’s bagged an impressive seven goals in 11 appearances.

With 31 goal contributions over the 2021/22 season, Vinicius Junior and Erling Haaland were the only players aged 21 or under to be involved in more goals last term.

Another one to watch, especially if we have moved on from Hugo Ekitike.

  1. Another young player with lots of talent & potential – but a different forward to Ekitike.
Ekitike is more of a wide forward where this lad plays a lot more through the middle.

Personally, I prefer this lad if the point of the recruitment is to have cover for Wilson.
