Newcastle in talks with the representatives of top free agent as D-day looms – Report

Newcastle remain in discussions with Christian Eriksen’s representatives over a potential move to St James’ Park, according to new reports.

This comes via Newcastle World, who have been told in the last 24 hours that we are STILL in talks with the player’s agent, stating that lines of communication between the two parties remains ‘very much open.’

It had been reported by the national media that it was Manchester United and Brentford who were battling it out for the Dane’s signature, however it seems Newcastle remain a possible destination as the midfielder prepares to make a final decision.

The 30-year-old is now a free agent after seeing his six-month contract with the Bees officially expire today, making him one of the bargains of the summer.

We released an exclusive earlier this month on the former Spurs star, revealing that he was due to hold face-to-face talks with Eddie Howe. How those discussions went is not yet clear, but it’s a positive sign that we remain in talks with the player’s agent, Martin Schoots.

Speaking to Bold.dk a few weeks ago, here’s what Eriksen had to say about his future:

“There are many criteria and many different things inside such a decision.

“Sometimes it goes fast in football, other times a little slower. You are not in control of it yourself. I have to make the best decision and not rush anything through.

“My phone stays on, but I also know my agent well enough to know that he only calls if there’s something exciting.”

  1. Last week the press were suggesting that Eriksen was more likely to choose Brentford over Man U because he wanted to stay darn sarf.
Are we just hoping that he won’t notice where Newcastle is?
