Sporting Director tells Sky Sports he may be forced to sell top Toon target – Over to you, NUFC?

Bayer Leverkusen’s Sporting Director Simon Rolfes has given Newcastle United fresh hope over a potential summer move for Moussa Diaby.

He admits that clubs with “incredibly large financial opportunities” could tempt them into a sale, stating that they’ll have no choice but to sell if an offer they can’t refuse comes in.

Rolfes is “optimistic” the Frenchman could stay with the Bundesliga side, yet his latest comments suggest Diaby could still be in our reach if we’re prepared to pay big money.

The 22-year-old is a French international who has been heavily linked with a move to St James’ Park over the past month, with many believing he’d be the marquee signing we’re crying out for in attack after 17 goals and 14 assists last season.

Here’s what Leverkusen’s Sporting Director told Sky Sports in Germany when asked about Diaby’s future:

“I’m optimistic about Moussa that he will play here next season.

“But when clubs with incredibly large financial opportunities bid for such a player, we have to sell a top player at some point.”

So, it’s hardly a ‘hands off’ message to potential suitors, with him practically admitting that the club will sell if the right offer comes in.

Here’s what he had to say during an interview with The Express’ Ryan Taylor last month:

“No, no. For sure we want to keep Moussa for as long as possible.

“I know a lot of scouts have been sitting on our tribune during our matches because we have a lot of interesting, exciting young players with high potential.

“So, it’s the same with Patrik Schick. We do not have any offers for him but we are not even looking for that at the moment.

“We would like to keep him and play with him next year in the Champions League.”

  1. If the selling price still high that could be considered Wolves Neto. That Portuguese only twenty two with very good dribble, shooting and crossing ability. First year very impressed but got injury last year until the end of season. Wolves is willing to do business.
