Updates on TWO Newcastle United targets arrive from Sky Sports reporter and Luke Edwards

Sky Sports’ Pete Graves and The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards have revealed the current state of play regarding Newcastle United’s pursuits of Hugo Ekitike and Armando Broja.

Ekitike appears to be the top target after a six-month saga continues to drag on, however it’s emerged that Broja – who spent last season on loan at Southampton – is on our list of back-up options.

Starting with the Frenchman, Graves insists that we have made a ‘good and fair’ offer to the player, but won’t be budging on the terms offered, stating the collapsed deal will only be resurrected if Ekitike and his agent decide to accept the package we’ve put in front of them.

The Sky Sports host claims it ‘could still happen’, suggesting we’ve not dropped our interest entirely, however the move is ‘off’ unless they finally agree to the terms we’re standing firm on.

As for Broja, Edwards reveals that we have an ‘active interest’ in the 20-year-old, but are waiting to see what Chelsea have planned for him, with it recently suggested that Thomas Tuchel wants to watch him in pre-season before making a decision on whether to keep, sell or loan him out again.

Edwards also adds that there is a ‘sense of calm’ at St James’ Park regarding incomings, as the club are assessing various options in attack in our bid to bring in a striker and right-winger.

Here’s what both had to say in transfer updates on Twitter:
