Agent of NUFC star eyeing “new opportunities” – Admits he could leave if he loses his place

David Zik – the agent of Martin Dubravka – believes the Newcastle stopper has “nothing to fear” and will start the season as NUFC’s number one – but claims he could move on if he loses his place.

Following the signing of Burnley’s Nick Pope, questions have risen over who will play between the sticks for Newcastle as both are experienced Premier League and international shot-stoppers.

Now, the Slovakian’s agent has spoken to Sport.Sk about how they still expect him to start in goal, but would be considered a ‘bad agency’ if they did not plan for Pope to eventually take his place.

As a result, he admits to looking for “new opportunities on the market”, suggesting the player is prepared to leave if he loses his spot in Eddie Howe’s first-team plans.

Here’s what Zik had to say, starting with his response to the added competition he’ll face this season:

“We had a call with Martin about this topic. Of course, we are aware that Nick is a quality goalkeeper and domestic representative.

“On the other hand, Martin has nothing to fear. In terms of quality, Martin is one of the best in the Premier League. We’ll see how it all develops.

“We understand that Newcastle United wants to have all posts doubled in quality. However, Martin has long been among the best goalkeepers in the Premier League.”

His agent also revealed that the 32-year-old had attracted attention from the top five leagues in Europe as well as MLS, but remains focused on his time on Tyneside.

“Clubs have to look ahead. It (signing Pope) could be a good alternative for Newcastle in the future. I believe that Martin will start the season.

“He has provided extremely high-quality services for the club over the past four and a half years. He kept the team in difficult situations many times. Perhaps thanks to this, as well as a responsible approach during preparation, he will defend his current position.

“On the other hand, we would be a bad agency if we didn’t also think about option B. However, we will deal with another alternative or alternatives only when it is necessary.”

Zik stated that they had previously been made aware that the club may look into other goalkeeping options in the summer, admitting that he is considering new opportunities for Dubravka incase he loses his place in the side:

“The last time we spoke was at the end of last season. Even then, they did not rule out the possibility of an arrival, so we were somewhat expecting it.

“It is understandable that Newcastle’s squad, given the club’s financial resources, will continue to grow and expand.

We feel that Martin’s position in the club is strong, but we are still trying to look for new opportunities on the market.”
