Steve Nickson in talks to bring South American to SJP following €20m proposal – Report

According to reports in South America, Steve Nickson has been in Brazil negotiating a deal for Santos star Angelo Gabriel.

This comes from leading Braizlian outlet Globo Esporte, who report that our head of recruitment flew out to watch the attacker in a 2-1 defeat to Flamengo last weekend.

It’s believed Nickson was also present to discuss a potential deal for the 17-year-old wonderkid, but were informed Santos will demand more than the €20m fee proposed by Newcastle.

An official bid is yet to be lodged, according to The Chronicle, who also report that Nickson was in the stands to watch Flamengo striker Gabriel Barbosa.

Back to Angelo – the teenage winger currently impressing out in Brazil – this isn’t the first time we’ve been linked with a move for the Santos star, with Globo revealing last month that we’d reached out to his agent.

As revealed below by Mark Douglas, the Brazil U17 star has been tracked by Barcelona, Liverpool and Real Madrid, yet it seems Nickson is trying to make the most of his ‘great contacts’ in that part of the world to bring the exciting young talent to Tyneside.
