Spanish press claim NUFC have made move for La Liga star entering final 12 months of contract

According to reports emerging from Spain on Thursday night, Newcastle are attempting to bring Marco Asensio to St James’ Park this summer.

This comes from Madrid-based outlet Diario AS, who claim that we are the club currently offering the most money for the Real Madrid winger entering the final 12 months of his contract.

The report states that we want the 26-year-old to be a ‘cornerstone of the new project’, believing he could be tempted by a move to England now he’s switched agent to Jorge Mendes – the man who has helped bring the likes of Darwin Nunez, James Rodriguez, Ruben Dias and Jose Sa to England in recent years.

Asensio ticks a few boxes as a relatively young right-winger with bags of ability, however this latest link should probably be taken with a pinch of salt at this stage.

For all we know, this is agent-driven in a bid to encourage Real Madrid to offer the Spaniard a lucrative new contract at the Bernabeu?

A hugely talented player – he scored 12 goals in Spain last season and has 29 caps for his country – but I’d be shocked (albeit pleasantly!) if we managed to pull this one off!
