Loan move confirmed and another imminent as Newcastle United clear out continues – Official

Newcastle United have confirmed that Jeff Hendrick has joined Reading on a season-long loan.

The 30-year-old is way down the midfield pecking order on Tyneside and was left out of our pre-season camp in Austria after being told to train with the U21s.

Hendrick spent the second half of the 2021/22 campaign at QPR and will be playing his football in the Championship once again this season, with Reading confirming his arrival on Tuesday lunchtime.

He is the third senior exit of the summer – alongside Isaac Hayden and Freddie Woodman – however that total will rise to four soon, as Ciaran Clark is currently undergoing a medical at Sheffield United.

The Athletic report that the centre-back will join Sheffield United on a season-long loan, where Newcastle will pay a ‘small portion’ of his salary.

With Hendrick and Clark both out of Eddie Howe’s plans ahead of the new season, it’s good to see both moved on – even if it is a tad frustrating we’ve not been able to find permanent moves for either.

  1. I’d be surprised if anyone who we need to offload was sold because of the ridiculous contracts and salaries fat Mike had them on.
Dwight is another Michael Owen who will be happy to milk the club for doing absolutely nothing.
