Newcastle in talks to sign £50m striker on club record deal – The Telegraph

According to The Telegraph, Real Sociedad star Alexander Isak has become the club’s top new target as Eddie Howe pushes to bolster his attacking options.

Luke Edwards’ latest exclusive reveals that Toon chiefs have ‘unanimously agreed’ on a move for the Swedish striker, believing he would be the ‘ideal signing’ after extensive scouting.

However, the report stresses that the entirety of our remaining transfer budget would be spent if we managed to bring the 22-year-old to Tyneside, as Isak would demand a club-record fee.

Edwards reports that we are in talks with the La Liga side but haven’t reached an agreement as of yet, with the club looking to strike a ‘buy-now-pay-later’ deal for the 6ft 4′ forward.

The Telegraph claim an overall package could cost ‘£50m-plus’, seeing us pay an initial £30m, along with another large payment in 12 months time to help spread over the cost of a potential transfer.

That said, Real Sociedad currently prefer more money to be paid up front, hence why negotiations are continuing between the two parties in hope a deal can be struck.

Isak is one of the most highly-rated young strikers in Europe and would be considered a huge coup for the club, having scored 43 goals over the past three seasons in Spain.
