Moussa Diaby speaks out on his Bayer Leverkusen future after strong links with Newcastle

Moussa Diaby has confirmed he’ll be staying at Bayer Leverkusen this summer, effectively ruling out a move to Newcastle United.

The winger has been described as one of our top attacking targets over the past few months, however a move to Tyneside has never felt likely based on a few factors.

Just last week, The Telegraph revealed that we were refusing to pay the £55m price tag placed on Diaby’s head, with the player asking to become our ‘top earner’ to sign at St James’ Park.

The Athletic have also suggested that the 23-year-old wasn’t sold on the move, as he was eager to play Champions League football – something he’ll be getting at Bayern Leverkusen over the coming season.

He’s now told the German press that he’s “made a decision” on his future, revealing that he’ll remain with the Bundesliga side.

Speaking to Rheinische Post, here’s what he’s had to say:

“I’ve made my decision and will play for Bayer Leverkusen next season.

“It’s true that I’ve made a lot of progress in this area.

“My goals haven’t changed for the coming season. With Bayer we want to have a top team again and I want to help the team as much as possible by continuing to score goals, but also by providing assists.

“The aim is to get as far as possible in all competitions.”
