The Magpies were interested in the midfielder at the start of the season when they searched for players who could assist them in winning trophies and boosting odds like the FIFA world cup odds.
Newcastle United has spoken with Yves Bissouma as the club prepares for a significant summer transfer window overhaul.
Before Tottenham paid £25 million to acquire the Mali international, he was linked to several teams, including Newcastle United. Brighton & Hove Albion’s 25-year-old midfielder is one of the several possibilities the Newcastle United front office is evaluating.
Before the EPL 2022/23 season, one of their key aims is to acquire a midfielder. Yves Bisssouma was signed by Tottenham Hotspur on Friday, beating six other teams.
The Fight For Yves
The Daily Mail reported in May that the Magpies were “preparing to make an offer” to Brighton. This occurred after they hired Dan Burn and were hiring Dan Ashworth as their new sports director.
According to sources, Yves Bissouma was Newcastle’s first-choice midfielder, but the club would have to pay £50 million to get the Brighton star. Bissouma performed admirably in Ligue 1 for Lille before joining Brighton & Hove Albion in the summer of 2018.
This month, Newcastle is attempting to acquire better players to remain in the Premier League. Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele is another candidate being considered.
Newcastle’s holding midfield was crowded for most of the 2021-22 season. Jonjo Shelvey was asked to fill in after Isaac Hayden’s knee injury forced him to miss the rest of the season.
Still, Newcastle’s engine room would benefit significantly from signing a true enforcer like Bissouma.
Before joining the Premier League club, the midfielder played 55 games over two seasons for a French club. He scored four goals and assisted on another two.
On the other hand, Tottenham took advantage of the fact that the 25-year-old player’s contract had only one year remaining to get him at a discount.
Last season, the Tottenham midfielder recorded 50 interceptions, while Shelvey only had 22. Bissouma is also superior to his Newcastle teammate in tackles, with 76 to 30.
Why Newcastle is Missing Out a Lot in Yves
Brighton desires Bissouma for £30 million, less than the £50 million he requested in January. Tottenham Hotspur attempted to sign Yves. Bissouma is under contract with the Amex Stadium through 2023. He has participated in all three of Mali’s Africa Cup of Nations matches.
Recently, Joelinton has emerged as a force in the midfield, but his skills have been displayed more as a “number eight” than as a holding player. This season, he has appeared 22 times in all competitions for Brighton. He has been one of the Premier League’s best central midfielders.
The 25-year-old had difficulty making Brighton’s first team and spent most of his first two seasons on the bench. Last season, Bissouma outperformed Shelvey in nearly every defensive measure.
This demonstrates the significance of a general midfielder for Newcastle. Bissouma would also be an excellent purchase. He was able to assist them in the center of the field.
Tottenham’s offer includes a Champions League spot, which Newcastle does not have. After Bissouma’s match against Spurs, Graham Potter stated last month that his performance was “at Champions League level.”
Due to injuries, he has not played much for the Premier League team. Bissouma, on the other hand, returned strongly and will be the club’s midfield anchor beginning with the 2020/21 season.
Liverpool possesses Fabinho, Chelsea possesses Kante, and Tottenham possesses Bissouma, but Newcastle lacks a solid presence in front of the defense. However, this did not prevent the Magpies from taking action. They have already signed notable players like Bruno and Kieran Trippier this year.
The Brazilian and his partner Bruno Guimaraes would have more leeway to attack if they had a tenacious player do the hard job. However, the Malian player is a flexible midfielder who excels at tackling and positioning but can also play in a more advanced position.
Thomas Partey hasn’t done what the Gunners need him to accomplish, and his injury issues will inevitably cause him additional problems in the future. Arsenal was also interested in Yves. Brighton’s Yves Bissouma was a popular transfer target during the whole summer.
The Frenchman was nominated for an award since he played effectively for Graham Potter’s club and had previously competed in the Premier League. In addition to Xhaka’s knee injury, Partey and Mohamed Elneny are due to depart for the African Cup of Nations, leaving the Gunners with fewer midfielders.
