Sky Sports: Former Mag set for Premier League return as €7.5m agreement is reached

Newly-promoted Fulham have struck a deal to sign former Newcastle defender Kevin Mbabu from Wolfsburg, as reported by Sky Sports.

Mbabu left Tyneside in 2017 to join BSC Young Boys for a fee in the region of £100,000 – and it looks like The Cottagers will sign the Swiss international for €5.5m plus €2m in add-ons five years later.

The transfer is subject to Mbabu passing his medical and agreeing personal terms, with Wolfsburg also negotiating a future sell-on clause before the player’s move can be made official.

The 27-year-old made five appearances in black and white in the 15/16 campaign, including three in the Premier League most notably as a left back in the 6-1 defeat to Manchester City.

After impressing on his trial, Mbabu signed from Servette in 2013 for an undisclosed fee, he would go on to turn out for the Magpies’ under 23’s on 21 occasions – primarily as a right back.

During his time in the Bundesliga Mbabu solidified himself as a right back, making 65 of his 82 appearances there, but also started as both a right midfielder and a centre back when required.
