Loan bid now a no-brainer for Newcastle as former Mag becomes available?

Paris Saint-Germain have decided to part ways with Georginio Wijnaldum and are prepared to loan him out in the ‘next few days or weeks’, according to Fabrizio Romano.

With Newcastle said to be in the market for another midfielder this summer, a move for the Premier League proven Dutchman could be a no-brainer.

It remains to be seen if this is something Eddie Howe would consider, but his availability on loan offers us the chance to bring in a quality operator at a low cost, allowing the club to also invest in a new striker and right-winger at a time where finances may not allow big-money moves for all three.

Wijnaldum arrived on Tyneside in July 2015 for a fee believed to be around £18m – the highest transfer fee of the Mike Ashley era at the time – before departing to Liverpool just 12 months later for around £25m.

The Dutch international scored 11 Premier League goals in the 15/16 campaign, including four against Norwich in a 6-2 drubbing at St. James’ Park. Sadly Gini’s efforts weren’t enough to keep Newcastle in the top flight, and he made the switch to Liverpool.

Over his five years with the Reds, Wijnaldum won a plethora of trophies, including the Premier League and the Champions League. He was unable to replicate the goal-scoring form he displayed in NE1 – managing 16 goals in 179 Premier League appearances on Merseyside – as he turned into more of a box-to-box midfielder under Jurgen Klopp.

Wijnaldum then switched to Paris on a free transfer in 2021, but struggled to nail down a starting spot, appearing in less than half the minutes in the Ligue 1 campaign last year. Les Parisiens have reinforced their midfield further with the arrival of Vitinha from Porto, pushing Gini further down the pecking order.

Now he appears to be available on a season-long loan deal, would you like the see the former Mag midfielder back on Tyneside?
