Newcastle sanction move for Championship winger as Eddie Howe eyes ‘bargain’ – TalkSPORT

According to TalkSPORT’s Alex Crook, Newcastle are ready to trigger the £17.5m release clause in Maxwel Cornet’s contract following Burnley’s relegation to the Championship.

The report states that Eddie Howe believes the Ivory Coast international could be a ‘bargain’ at that price, suggesting he is the latest player we’re pursuing in our search for a new winger.

Everton have had a loan bid rejected for the 25-year-old , while Nottingham Forest ‘failed to agree personal terms’ with the former Lyon star.

With Chelsea also believed to have shown interest, talkSPORT report that we are prepared to activate the attacker’s £17.5m release clause to steal a march on our Premier League rivals.

Cornet bagged an impressive nine goals in 26 appearances in his debut season in England last term and would also offer versatility, being able to operate up front or down either flank.

The Ivorian played alongside new recruit Nick Pope at Turf Moor and will also know Bruno Guimaraes well, with the Brazilian playing alongside the Burnley winger during his time in France.

Elsewhere, Crook reports that Armando Broja – a loan target of ours – looks likely to stay in London, as Thomas Tuchel is currently reluctant to get rid of another forward after losing Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan.
