According to Sky Sports, West Ham have now joined the race for Burnley’s Maxwel Cornet.
The winger was heavily linked with a move to St James’ Park over the weekend, with The Mail confirming we’d been in discussions with Burnley after talkSPORT revealed on Friday that we were ‘ready’ to pursue a deal.
Now, Sky Sports claim that the Hammers have held initial talks with the Ivorian, but would prefer to sign the 25-year-old on loan – not activate his £17.5m release clause following relegation.
Everton have also shown interest in the versatile attacker, who was a shining light in an otherwise dismal season for the Clarets last term, scoring nine goals in 26 games following his move from Lyon.
So, it seems Newcastle, West Ham and Everton are all keen, but it remains to be seen what sort of deal Burnley are willing to sanction after a few clubs – including ourselves – have appeared reluctant to activate his release clause in full.
